I’d like to point out that there is a difference between people that hang
onto things that could potentialy be usefull (even when it fills all
available space) and those who, um, keep poop or dead cats. ^_-
For the record I have no dogs or cats, dead or alive or any of their poop!
I do have a lot of VHS tapes and all my friend’s/family’s old TVs and
monitors so I have spares incase the one I’m using fails. If someone
breaks in my TV is too old to be worth them stealing… ^_-
Hopefully they see Windows XP/NT running and decide the computer
is too old to take as well..
People who compulsively chuck stuff because they have a fetish
for empty space are probably just as messed up as the person
who keeps dog shit. ^_-
Oh I know there’s a MASSIVE difference. I tend to hold onto extra screws from Ikea sets myself. This was about the specific compulsion to hoard useless crap (Ba-dum tish). Most commonly it’s people who refuse to throw away literal garbage.
And when social services make a visit and you find that the old man has basically turned his house into a poorly-preserved archive of all the local papers, with only narrow ‘corridors’ to move through the house, and it’s all because he never had the support he needed (but was too afraid and/or proud to ask for) following his bereavement.
More often than not, they get into the situations they’re in because instead of receiving the support they need, they get ridiculed, which only reinforces their state.
